Clinton more popular in polls than Obama

By Ben Fisher

Hilary Clinton would have more chance of winning in the current US presidential election than Barack Obama.

That’s according to a new poll by YouGov which was show to The Guardian.

The survey suggested that Hilary Clinton, wife of former US president, Bill, would record an impressive victory over Mitt Romney if her name was on the ballot paper, instead of Barack Obama.

The secretary of state would beat Romney by 51% to 45% amongst likely voters, whereas Obama’s supposed lead is a significantly slenderer. The current president holds a narrow 1% nose in front of Romney, leading 48% to 47%.

Significantly, both Florida and North Carolina, states that Obama appears set to lose, would in fact result in a win, if Clinton were to be the Democrats presidential nomination this time around.

Both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, who served under George W. Bush are by no means strangers to such results, considering that secretaries of state tend to be more popular than the presidents they serve.

The poll shows Clinton performing stronger than Obama, amongst almost every group: men and women; Republicans and independents and those earning more and those earning less than $40,000 per year.

It is only amongst African Americans where Obama takes a higher podium finish, with a bigger win over black voters against Romney.
