It has been noted that the exit polls have become more Republican than those seen in the 2008 US election.
It seems that in the 2008 election Obama dominated the campaign for precedency in the exit polls. In 2012 7% of those who would normally vote Democrat have now identified themselves as a Republican. Clearly there has been a rise in support for the Republicans.
The main issue swaying voters appears to the candidates’ policy on how they believe they will influence the economy. The fact that Superstorm Sandy hit the east coast so close to the election is likely to have a significant impact on the votes as the public have analysed how Obama has handled the situation. The feedback appears to have been mostly positive, swaying voters who were undecided to vote Democrat.
