In Miami, Florida, hundreds of voters waiting in line have been turned away as polls close on them.
Around 300 dedicated voters were stood for hours in the searing heat when polls closed.
Some precincts towards the north had to stop voting when ballots ran out.
Many voters abandoned the polling stations, which did not have restroom facilities, rather than enduring six-hour queues.
These votes were crucial to the swing state where ballots are still too close to call.
