US 2012

A country decides

November 7, 2012

President Barack Obama is re-elected

Barack Obama has been re-elected as President of the United States.

He took key battleground states Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Michigan to beat candidate Mitt Romney.

He is currently on 275 electoral college votes.

Taking to twitter at 4:10am GMT, Obama wrote:

This happened because of you. Thank you.

It makes the end of a bitter campaign where both candidates faced hurdles that many thought had written them off.

Many thought the race would have been a much closer affair.

In the end, despite his weak first debate performance and an economy that many thought was not strong enough, Obama has convinced the American people to give him four more years.

The Republican campaign has yet to respond.
