President Barack Obama has responded to comments made by billionaire Donald Trump, after the businessman called for the release of the President’s college and passport records.
Last Wednesday, real-estate mogul, Trump, released a YouTube video, where Trump offered up a donation of $5 million (approximately £3.1 million) to a charity of Obama’s choice if the President released his college and passport records by 5pm on October 31st.
“President Obama is the least transparent President in the history of this country” begins Trump, in the 2-minute video. “If he releases these records, it will end the question, and indeed, the anger of many Americans. They’ll know something about their president.”
But a defiant Obama failed to resist the opportunity to poke fun at Trump.
“This all dates back to when we were growing up in Kenya,” he joked, whilst appearing on The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno. “We had constant run-ins on the soccer field, he wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over.”
US Apprentice star, Donald Trump, had told major news outlets and the social media-sphere he had ‘game-changing’ information about President Obama which he would release weeks before election, which could “transform the destiny of the US presidential election”.
Trump was then offered the opportunity to explain his offer to late-night US TV show host, David Letterman.
Last April, Trump attempted to get the US president to prove his citizenship leading to Obama releasing his certificate stating his birthplace as Hawaii.
Trump is a leading voice of the “birther” movement, a group of conspiracy theorists. Birthers believe Obama was actually born outside of the US and isn’t constitutionally eligible to be president of the US.
